Research, Innovation and Special Grants

A programme of the ICT Division supporting research, innovation and the use of information and communication technology for the public good.

The ICT Division helps pay for work that uses technology to make life in Bangladesh better. That might be a project that brings a new service to citizens, puts technology to work in a school, a hospital or a farm, or research that moves an ICT subject forward.

There are two kinds of support. If you have a project, you can apply for a grant, either on your own or on behalf of an organisation. If you are studying or doing research on an ICT related subject, you can apply for a fellowship or scholarship, from Master's level up to postdoctoral work.

You can apply at any time of year. Every application is read by a committee and measured against the criteria published for that kind of support.

What is offered

Four kinds of support

Each has its own criteria, funding range and application form.

Innovation Fund

For ICT projects that contribute to socio-economic development, improve public services, strengthen the ICT industry, or create new services through original innovation.

Special Grants

For the use of ICT in education, health, agriculture and trade, in women's and children's development, in poverty alleviation, and in services for people with disabilities.

Fellowships

For research in the ICT subjects listed in the policy, from Master's and MPhil through to Doctoral and Postdoctoral level.

High-Profile ICT Scholarship

For advanced study and research of national significance in information and communication technology.

Eligibility

Who can apply

Each kind of support sets its own conditions, published on its own page.

For a project grant, you can apply on your own or on behalf of an organisation, and you do not need to be a researcher to do so. What matters is the project and what it would achieve.

For a fellowship or scholarship, you should be studying or carrying out research in an ICT subject. These run from Master's level up to postdoctoral work.

How it works

How an application is assessed

Every application passes through the same three stages, in order.

  1. Selection Committee

    Reads every submitted application against the criteria for its grant type and decides which proposals go forward.

  2. Award Committee

    Decides the grant for selected applications and authorises the money to be released.

  3. Evaluation Committee

    Follows funded work as it moves through its phases, considering further payment at each stage against the progress reported.

You can follow your own application from your dashboard at any point, and you are notified whenever a decision is recorded.

Who runs this programme

The programme is administered by the ICT Division of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, from ICT Tower, Agargaon, Dhaka-1207. The committees that assess applications are constituted by the Division under the policy.
